Japanese government and businesses promote tourism and culture through sake

On February 15, Japan National Tourism Organization - cash1970.info (JNTO) Sydney office and the Consulate-General of Japan in Sydney held a grand 200 people reception to promote the beauty of Japan and the popularization of Japanese sake.

To mark the one year anniversary of 3.11 earthquake, this event aimed to showcase the speedy recovery of Japan as well as to express sincere appreciation to the Australian community for their continued support. With a wide range of delicious sake provided by twenty six eminent Japanese brewers (with six brewers actually attending the event), information regarding travel to Japan, traditional entertainment such as Taiko drum performances and Yosakoi Soran dances, this event was filled with exciting ways to soak up Japanese culture.

“This large scale event gave us the opportunity not only to showcase Japanese culture, but to thank Australian industry and consumers for their continued support. One of the six visiting sake brewers came from the disaster-stricken sea coast area of Miyagi Prefecture. He continues to produce sake with the hope for revival of the whole area and in his approach we can see the soul of the Japanese people“, commented Yukio Yamashita, Executive Director, JNTO Sydney.

Many stakeholders cooperated with the organisation of this event, such as Japanese Government agencies in Australia, Japanese sake brewers, travel agents and airlines as well as private Japanese companies.

“All of us involved hope that those who attended had an enjoyable time and were able to discover more of Japan at the event. Japan will soon welcome spring with fresh greens and beautiful cherry blossoms blooming throughout the country, and we hope to see more Australian visitors in Japan in 2012” added Yukio Yamashita.

The Japan National Tourism Organization - cash1970.info (JNTO) is involved in a broad range of activities promoting Japan overseas as well as tourism-promoting activities in Japan. The Australian office actively promotes Japan as a tourist destination to the Australian and New Zealand market in print media, online, TV, through travel agents, and trade and consumer events.
